Boca Raton Florida was founded in 1925 after originally being named Bocaratone on August 2, 1924. This city is known for being one of the wealthiest areas in all of Florida, and a preferred 2nd home of New Yorkers and New Jerseyians. Boca Raton is the Southernmost city in Palm Beach County, Florida. It is in the north of Fort Lauderdale and Miami and is one of the principal cities in the Miami Metropolitan Area. Boca is less than an hours drive to Miami and a 30 minute drive to West Palm Beach.
The originals were Spanish and the town’s name came from Boca de Ratones meaning ‘rat’s mouth’ for the sharp-pointed rocks. As per 2019 estimation, the city is home to about 99,000 people. The city is full of recreation places because of being so close to the Atlantic Ocean. Mizner Park east of I-95 and just minutes away from the Atlantic Ocean. The park is a popular shopping and restaurant destination near downtown Boca Raton, it sits where the original Boca Raton mall stood.
The city is also famous for its praiseworthy education system and known as a great destination for higher education. Boca is home to the main campus of Florida Atlantic University, and Lynn University, and a campus of Palm Beach Community College. Mizner Park is east of Florida Atlantic University, and the Boca Raton mall. FAU is home to the Boca Raton Bowl, a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), held at FAU Stadium. In addition, Lynn University is also a popular higher education facility that is west of Mizner Park. In addition, FAU even has a high school on campus, named FAU High School, the students at this alternative school have the ability to gain up to three years of college credits by the time they graduate, making the competition to attend this school very competitive.
Boca Raton Florida’s Economy
Tourism, manufacturing, and high-technology industries contribute to the economy of the city. The city was previously home to IBM, where it had one of its campuses in the city. This IBM location was where the first IBM PC was invented. IBM eventually split the campus up and moved to Austin, Texas and Raleigh, North Carolina in the Research Triangle Park.
This city is also home to several museums, parks and beaches. The Boca Raton Lagoon, or inlet. The Boca Raton Resort and Club located on the beach. Popular places to visit include Red Reef Park, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Sugar Sand Park and the famous Mizner Park. These beaches are where tourists and locals come to soak in the sun. The Boca Raton Florida Town Center Mall is one of the largest in the USA and is an extremely popular indoor shopping destination.
In addition to being known as the Beverly Hills of the East Coast, nothing says more than luxury than the Boca Raton Airport where private jets land on a regular basis. The city is also home to myriad famous people such as US National soccer player Jozy Altidore, and US tennis player Chris Evert.
